AMD gaming laptops with the Ilano Fusion APU offer clear advantages over the Sandy Bridge platform. AMD is known for developing excellent mobile GPU's over the years, but Intel has historically outperformed in terms of CPU performance and battery life. The latest example was the success of Intel's Sandy Bridge, but that success is likely to be short lived now that AMD has raised the bar for gaming laptops.

AMD has achieved the stellar performance on the new platform by combining a four core Phenom CPU with a 400 Stream processor and Radeon GPU, all on the same slice of silicon. This is a fascinating architectural achievement which gamers are sure to appreciate. While the concept of integrated graphics is not new, they have historically been designed to do perform only minimal operations. Rather than integrated graphics, AMD is instead offering an integrated GPU which will offer performance typically only seen with discreet graphics cards.

Toshiba gaming laptops like the Satellite P755-113 offer impressive graphics and 3D, but there are some downsides as well. The world of mobile gaming is in a period of flux as new devices like tablets compete with laptops, so new gaming laptops must offer something extra in order to offset their physical limitations versus a tablet.

The easiest way to compete is via raw power, which is especially important when it comes to graphics. This is where the Toshiba Satellite P775-113 excels. It makes use of the new Nvidia GT 540M graphics card to great effect in graphically demanding game titles like the DX11 series. It is one of a new breed of gaming laptops that are all competing with one another at the same price point, so the space is starting to feel crowded already.
